Northeastern New Mexico provides many of Lindy's favorite subjects. "This piece resulted from a painting morning in another plein air painter's wonderfully secluded and lushly landscaped garden outside Taos. Several of us had been painting with Albert Handell all week during one of his non-instructional mentoring workshops. Which means Albert would choose a location, announce it to us, then we'd follow him and hope we didn't get too lost along the way. Once there, we'd all spread out a quarter mile or so as we each picked our own subject to paint. Three hours later, we'd present what we'd done to the group for a critique.

Unfortunately, a record heat wave struck Taos during this long-anticipated week of painting together. I thought I'd die. Then Albert directed us to his friend and fellow artist Walt Gonske's wonderful garden. Shade. Cool, cool shade. I raced to the most protected spot and began to paint. This painting reminds me how even a small respite from life can refresh me."
