Northeastern New Mexico provides many of Lindy's favorite subjects. Running water is scarce back home in the high desert of Big Bend country;  Lindy Severns paints it on frequent travels to this part of the Rockies.
Lindy shares, " We have a routine for plein air work in New Mexico. Jim and the dog find a fishing spot (more difficult to locate than a place to paint is) then I set up nearby. The parrot stays with me, either perching on my arm or in his travel cage by my side. In this instance, the bird kept calling to a hawk that hunted across the river from us.

I was initially interested in patterns of light on the water. The day was bright and sunny. As I roughed in my composition, one of those sudden New Mexico thunderstorms built, changing the light to the more muted scene I painted. It changed a very active painting to a more introspective, serene scene. I kept imagining hiking up the narrow trail on the side of the river the hawk claimed. And my husband caught a nice trout just before the storm drove us to picnic in the truck."
