Clay is a living, breathing thing just waiting to find new form.  I handle it as little as possible. Too much, and the piece will die. Too little, and it is as an undisciplined child.  I have to know when to let go!  In my luminarias, my big candle holders, I like to create places I'd want to sit with my morning coffee.  Quiet retreats dancing with light. Unexpected nooks, windows, private spaces filled with firelight.  It's a journey of faith. I must imagine what the bottled colors I paint on lifeless, unfired gray clay will look like once the piece has been fired to a warm terracotta red.
